Series - “I Love You Doll” (2022)

“I Love You Doll” is a story about emotional abuse. The two characters in the series have an apparently tense relationship where the miniature protagonist always has to cope with stressful situations actively created by the other. The miniature tries to hide from the other figure, before rising against her by physical means, in vain. Her daily life then consists of walking on eggshells 24 hours per day. At the end, it becomes obvious that no matter what she does and how she resists, the controlling figure will double up their tactics and out-power her.

This series is a reflection of our era where attention is being widely drawn on emotional abuse, which can include actively lying, blaming others, denying and withholding truths. Often such tactics are used to achieve an imbalance of power. The focus of this series is being put onto the miniature protagonist, thus, one’s reaction to manipulation. As one cannot entirely control who they come across, they can only focus on how they respond to and keep distance from the unhealthy dynamics.

Kayee C chooses a rather playful tone to tell this story. She hopes to invite viewers’ interpretations with an open mind, because it is often easier to blame the victim for staying instead of listening to their voice, understanding that they are actually victims of manipulative tactics that tap into the very sensitivities that make them human.

For your curiosity, I talked about the story of this series in my Adobe live interview (in French).
